Labrador Sea Deep Convection Experiment

Knorr Meteorology 1998

Surface Heat and Momentum Fluxes from the R/V Knorr during the 1998 Labrador Sea Deep Convection Experiment

Caption: Time series of heat and momentum flux from the 1998 Knorr cruise. All fluxes are defined positive downward so negative heat flux values indicate ocean cooling. The 24 hour filtered total heat flux (red line) is shown only for the period when the Knorr was within the Labrador Sea. Values were determined from basic met data using the bulk method of Smith (JGR,1988). Average total heat flux was -217 Watts/m-2, compared to -357 Watts/m-2 in 1997.
