LOCAL MESOSCALE ANALYSIS PRODUCTS
Regional analyses using mesoscale observations (mesonet) collected as part of the Bay Area Mesonet Initiative (BAMI) are being used to generate several local analysis products on an hourly basis. These analyses are produced by combining the mesonet data with a model forecast produced at the Naval Postgraduate School with the MM5 model run at 12 km resolution http://www.weather.nps.navy.mil/~dkmiller/MM5/. Three dimensional multiquadric interpolation is used to combine the observations at differing elevations and the three dimensional model first guess into a full three dimensional analysis. The following figures show only the surface winds for the Monterey Bay and San Francisco Bay areas.
